Patricia Espinosa, the new Secretary of UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), and Salaheddine Mezouar, the president of COP-22, led a talk with young people this morning.
The idea of the meeting was hear the youth and gave a short brief of the negotiations in Marrakech.
Espinosa, which assumed the position in the middle of this year, was positive and asked for patience. “We cannot expect that the road map is going to be done here”, told the Secretary of UNFCCC. But she guarantees that the focus of the conference in Marrakech is find the best ways to facilitate the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Espinosa also complements that next week, with the presence of the king of Morocco, Mohammed VI, is expected reach 150 signatories of the agreement created last year, at COP-21, in Paris.
Mezouar use his speech to bold that Marrakech is also the COP of finance. More than guarantee commitment for the Green Climate Fund (GCF), he told that “we want a regulated market”. The president also clarify that his mission at this COP: “bring real action for the real expectations”. “In Marrakech we adopted a new language: the real action language”.
